The coat rack provides a place to put coats and jackets without being too bulky or getting in the way. The white door contrasts well with the light green walls, and is perfect for grabbing items on your way out the door. Grab an old door and give it a fresh coat of paint. Nail on some side panels and a bottom to keep it from tipping over. You want to make sure that it can stand on its own, or at the very least stand on its own with some support from the wall. After that it’s all a matter of your needs – add in a dowel to hang jackets or sweaters or add hooks for your umbrella or hats. You could even line up a row of these to serve as a mini mudroom for the kids if you find yourself lacking in one.
To dress it up add some furnishing to the base – maybe a pot to hold your taller umbrellas or some flowers for some added color. Or you could try some crown molding – add it to the top to make it appear as a part of the house the base to keep it sturdy and strong. Make sure your base is wide to accommodate your rain boots and sneakers.
The goal is to keep your shoes off the floor and on the door, to keep from tracking dirt around the house. You could even add a little basket to serve as your mail station or to hold your dog’s leash.
